HOW WELL DO WE KNOW NATURAL HORMONES?
Jennifer’s Pharmacy has been a full service pharmacy for seventeen years. We began compounding hormones in 1993. As a licensed pharmacist, Jennifer has always been concerned with quality. We use the best pharmaceutical grade ingredients we can find and have a reputation for using the most natural products available. We have developed an extensive list of compounded recipes for capsules, sublingual solutions, sublingual troches, suppositories ,and topicals (creams, ointments, and gels).

HOW DO I KNOW IF NATURAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY IS RIGHT FOR ME?
You Ask Jennifer! One of the best places to start is by filling out our CUSTOMER CONSULTATION FORM found on our homepage. Email it back to Jennifer so she can help determine if simple over-the-counter supplements and lifestyle changes can balance your health or if it is time to find a doctor who will prescribe natural hormones. This Consultation Form will also help us refer you to the doctor most suitable for you.

WHAT ARE NATURAL (OR COMPOUNDED) HORMONES?
In short, our compounded hormones are derived from either soy or wild yam; these molecules are identical to the hormone molecules made in the human body. The body is able to use these hormones the same way it uses its own progesterone, estriol, estradiol, estrone, testosterone, pregnenolone, DHEA, etc.

WHAT IS COMPOUNDING?
Compounding can be compared to the old days when pharmacists still weighed and measured their own medications. Before we had trade-name, pre-made pharmaceuticals, medications were compounded to each patient’s needs. Compounding now refers to prescriptions that are mixed and made just for you, the way your doctor prescribes them.

WHAT IF MY DOCTOR IS UNFAMILIAR WITH COMPOUNDED HORMONES?
Let your doctor know if you are interested in compounded hormones. If they are familiar with compounds they will know just what to give you. Some doctors figure dose by blood or saliva levels, other doctors determine dose by severity of symptoms. If your doctor is unfamiliar or uncomfortable with compounded hormones we will be happy to send you a list of knowledgeable doctors or help your doctor decide what is best for you. Please fill out our CUSTOMER CONSULTATION FORM on our homepage to help us match you with the most suitable doctor.

HOW SOON SHOULD I BEGIN TO FEEL BETTER?
You should should notice a change (for the better) after one month on compounded hormone replacement therapy. Some will feel better within one to two weeks. Your response depends on how low your original levels were or how long you have had symptoms. Everyone is different, so do be patient. Please let your doctor know if you are not feeling better after one month so that your dosage can be changed or other hormones added.

WHAT IF I HAVE SIDE EFFECTS OR MY SYMPTOMS DO NOT GO AWAY?
Compounded prescriptions are made especially for you per your doctor’s orders. As with any medication, the dose thait is ordered by your doctor may not take care of your original symptoms. If it is too strong you may have side effects; if it is too weak, it may not take care if your original symptoms. Let us or your doctor know if you experience anything that is “not right” so that your dose can be adjusted.

WILL MY INSURANCE COVER MY COMPOUNDED PRESCRIPTION?
It is our experience that most insurance plans favor manufactured medicine and do not cover compounded prescriptions. We are not able to submit claims for compounded prescriptions for you. Contact your insurance company to find out if they will reimburse for compounds. Some simply need your receipt with the National Drug Code. If so, we will be happy to give this to you. Other policies have claim sheets for you to fill out; if Jennifer’s signature is required, simply ask or send in the forms with a self-addressed stamped envelope and we will be happy to return it to you.

HOW MANY MONTHS CAN I GET REFILLED AT A TIME?
We will gladly fill compounds for up to a three month supply since we have no limitations from your insurance. Industry standard allows us to guarantee the potency for only three months. If you are first starting compounded hormone therapy, or have a new strangth, we recommend a one month supply. This allows time for your body to adjust to the new dose and determine whether it is the right dose for you. We don’t want you to pay for medicine you may not need. There is no discount on quantity (except for fewer postage fees, if your prescriptions gets mailed).

HOW LONG ARE MY COMPOUNDED PRESCRIPTIONS GOOD FOR?
Your compounds are good for three months. This is the pharmaceutical industry standard for all compounded medicine. If the expiration is less than three months we will let you know.

WHEN CAN I GET MY COMPOUNDED MEDICINE?
We need at least 24 hours notice to get your compounded prescription ready for you. If you call in today and want to pick up your prescription, we’ll have it ready the next day after 2:00p.m. Since we close early on Saturdays we can have it ready at 12:00p.m. (if ordered on Friday by 3:00pm). Mailed prescriptions will go in the mail no later than the following business day. Please remember we cater to every compounding customer with the same care, so please respect their turn as we respect yours.

CAN I HAVE MY PRESCRIPTIONS MAILED?
Of course you can! We charge $2.50 per package (not per prescription) to mail first class with the U.S. Post Office. We strongly recommend allowing 7-10 days to recieve your package. If you need your prescription within 2-4 days we can send it priority mail for $5.00 (within Missouri or Illinois). Remember, your medicine will be mailed no later than the following day, extra notice allows leeway for any delays with refill authorizations or post office inadequacies, etc.

CAN MY COMPOUNDS BE MAILED DURING ANY SEASON?
Yes, mailing does not harm products during most seasons. However, there can be problems with suppositories in warmer weather and troches in the extreme heat. If you have a P.O. Box or your mailbox is inside a building the weather is not such and issure. But never fear! We’ll let you know when the hot weather is here!

WHERE DO I KEEP MY COMPOUNDED MEDICINE?
Most medicine cabinets are perfect! The main thing is to keep it away from excessive heat or moisture. If your prescription requires refrigeration we will tell you. Otherwise it can be kept with your other prescriptions.
